Hanover was an American shoe brand founded in Hanover, Pennsylvania, in 1899. Known for its quality leather footwear, the company operated on a direct-to-consumer model, selling its shoes at a single, affordable price through a chain of its own retail stores. The brand's reputation for classic, well-made men's dress shoes, including oxfords and brogues, made it a significant name in American footwear throughout much of the 20th century. In 1978, the company was acquired by the British brand C&J Clark (Clarks). Today, original Hanover shoes are highly sought after by vintage footwear collectors and enthusiasts of classic American style, particularly models made with high-quality materials like shell cordovan.
